What do you ask for in return for the things that you do?

When you help someone with their homework, do you expect them to keep tabs and help you out when you need it? When you help a friend get through a difficult time, do you do it expecting that they’ll repay you? When you do something out of your way for someone else, do you hold that over their heads for the rest of eternity? What are the real motivations behind your actions? Are you doing something for the right reasons? Are you helping people out for the recognition? For the glory? With the expectation that they now have a debt to be repaid? It seems like this is a common theme in society today: I scratch your back, you scratch mine. But what if we went about life from a different point of view? What if we decided that we weren’t going to do things because we expect something in return? Instead, what if we decided that from now on, we’d do things for other people because it was the right thing to do? Instead of expecting something in return, what if we did something selflessly with no need for retribution? Today I challenge you to do something kind or something that’s right without the need for retribution or recognition. The world would easily become a better place if we all just did our small part.
